What Is Skimboarding

WHAT IS SKIMBOARDING?

Skimboarding is a water sport that involves riding on a skimboard to glide across the water’s surface. It originated in Southern California when lifeguards wanted an efficient way to cross the beaches. Skimboarding has evolved since then and is now a recognized professional sport with competitions held worldwide.

There are two main types of skimboarding:

1. Flatland Skimboarding: This style involves performing tricks on a flat water surface, similar to skateboarding or snowboarding. This is typically done on shallow water on the beach, or in puddles, tide pools, and even rivers.

2. Wave Skimboarding: This style is more like surfing and involves riders catching incoming waves and riding them back to shore. This is done from the shore rather than from out in the water, as surfers do.

Skimboards are smaller than surfboards, and are typically made out of fiberglass or carbon fiber, making them light and quick to respond. Skimboarding requires balance, agility, and a good sense of timing to catch waves. It’s a fun and challenging sport that has gained popularity around the world.
